Yellow Brick Road Crossing Guard Association suffers 4th fatality this year.

For as long as it has existed the Yellow Brick Road Crossing Guard association has been rife with tragedy. In accordance with Trans-universal traffic law, crossing guards across Oz wear bright yellow vests while on the job.

On noncommercial dirt roads, seen mostly in the rural east of Oz, the crossing guard fatalities are exceptionally rare. However, on the Yellow Brick Road, the Emerald City's most widely used road, crossing guards have been dropping like flies.

Oz's original architects famously built the nation's only superhighway completely out of golden bricks. While the venture did add aesthetic value and create a popular tourist attraction, the venture initially bankrupted the country and created a new problem in the crossing guard community: the timeless yellow safety vests worn by crossing guards now blended in to the golden road.

This issue of invisible safety officials has caused four deaths this year and 378 since the road's inception. Many were run over by traveling caravans while others were mowed down by hoards of eager wizard-seekers (as was the case this morning when 1st year crossing Munchkin, MoMo Gollywhop, was trampled by a lion, metal man, scarecrow, and teenage girl).

Though many petitions have been started to remove the yellow vest mandate, none have ever made it all the way to the emerald capital.

"We've had speeding problems on that road for as long as I can remember," said Good Witch and treasury secretary of the Crossing Guard Association, Glinda. "When people are on their way to see the wizard, they're so preoccupied that they forget to abide by traffic regulations."

Despite the immense impact this issue has had on the community, the wizard himself has yet to intervene.
